Lousianna
From Arkansas we moved on to Lousianna, full of good thoughts about our visit in Arkansas. Our dear friend Amy and her family live in Northern Lousianna in a small town called Mer Rouge. Our other dear friend Suellyn lives in Lafayette and she and her family came up for the weekend too. Now we have more dear friends to add to our list... their husbands and children are just as "precious" as they are! What a time we had there. We havn't seen our friends since our wedding day, but except for the 9 children it hardly seems like any time has passed. We enjoyed them all soooo much and it was really difficult to leave! But, they are all going to come spend the 4th with us next summer. I'm "claiming it" Suellyn!
When we arrived (a bit late :) ) we were all impressed with the low flying plane soaring right over our heads, but just as it did we noticed everyone was in the pool house with the door closed and we were hit with a strong smell of insectiside. I hope it wasn't the California plates! I can assure you that was the last time that we felt unwelcomed! And..at least the mosquitoes didn't want to get near us since we'd been dusted.
Danny, Amy's husband barbequed all kinds of meat and their was a spread of food and home made icecream waiting for us.
On Sunday we went to church, relaxed and saw the town and surrounding area.
July 4th...reluctantly up and on the road, after a yummy treat that I don't know how to spell, cooked by Amy!
It's a good thing that we hit the road early. We took the Natchez Trace Parkway and were stopped by a fallen tree and had an hour and a half delay because of it. We highly recommend the Trace. Its like driving through a tunnel of green for hundreds of miles. The speed limit is 50 but there are no stop signs, signals, billboards or power lines. The signs are minimal, infact they don't even tell you how far you are from a town. There are also no cell phone signals! When we came to the tree there was no way to turn around in our rig, so we waited it out. We are thankful that the tree didn't fall on us, as it was obvious that it had just happened. We also saw fireflies, a wild turkey and lots of deer. It was a bit uncomfortable driving at night but we made it to the Nashville KOA at about 10:30. I recommend this town and that you plan on staying for a few days. I think there is a lot to do and see here, but we are on the road again.
